What Languages After Class is about:
Languages After Class is a new organization run by students and for the students of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The purpose of this organization is to offer students a way to learn languages in a fun atmosphere without paying tuition. The organization also offers students an alternative position in the organization as a teacher. Students from a different country or students who are multilingual can teach their own native tongue through this organization to interested students. The flexible setup of the organization and the resources on campus will allow anyone interested in teaching a language the freedom to teach where and when they would like.
How Languages After Class works:
There are three different ways language courses will be set up:
The First Way
1. A student wants to LEARN a specific foreign language
2. The student tells one of the Languages After Class (LAC) officers which language he or she would like to learn
3. An LAC officer finds a person on campus who would be willing to teach that language
4. That LAC officer works with the teacher to find a place to teach
5. That LAC officer introduces the teacher and student(s)
6. That teacher and his or her student(s) create their own schedule for language learning
The Second Way
1. A UW-Madison student would like to TEACH a specific foreign language
2. That student talks to an LAC officer
3. The LAC officer informs students that that specific language is now being taught
4. The LAC officer introduces any interested student(s) to the teacher
5. The LAC officer and teacher work together to find a place on campus to teach
6. The teacher and students create their own schedule for language learning
The Third Way
1. Several students want to learn a specific language
2. An LAC officer is unable to find someone to teach the language
3. That LAC officer finds free resources and ways to learn that language
4. The interested students get together and create a schedule of when to meet and study that language on their own
Member Requirements for Languages After Class:
The only requirement for Languages After Class is that you must be a University of Wisconsin-Madison student. It doesn't matter if you're a part-time or full-time student, only that you are a student. There are no membership fees or GPA requirements. Interested students can join whenever they would like but must join before the language classes they are interested in start in order to prevent distractions and more work for the teachers.
The Languages After Class constitution will not be available for a bit as it is being edited at the current moment. It will be available online when all final changes have been made to it.
